“Magic of Wood” Art Exhibition by Renowned Iranian Artist Abdi Opens in Karachi
Karachi February 7 2025 — The opening ceremony of the “Magic of Wood” exhibition was held at the Pakistan Arts Council in Karachi. The event was attended by Saeed Ghani Provincial Minister for Local Government and Planning and Mohammad Ahmad Shah former Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Karachi Arts Council.
Hassan Nourian, the Iranian Consul General in Karachi, spoke to the media during the ceremony, highlighting the significance of the event in the context of the 46th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Nourian described art as a bridge for cultural and civilizational exchange, expressing gratitude to the renowned Iranian artist Parviz Abdi for sharing his vision and creativity through his wood art. He praised Abdi’s works as vivid expressions of human emotions and inner beauty.
“Art has a unique ability to transcend language, culture, and time,” Nourian said. “It speaks directly to our feelings, challenges our perspectives, and invites us into the artist’s mind. Every piece displayed here is more than just colors on wood; it tells a story, conveys emotions, and reflects the artist’s view of the world.”
Minister Saeed Ghani also extended his thanks to the Iranian Consulate General for coordinating the exhibition and warmly welcomed the artist, acknowledging the years of experience and craftsmanship behind his masterpieces. He highly praised the artworks, emphasizing their artistic and cultural value.
Wood carving, or “monabat” art, is one of the most exquisite traditional crafts, combining artistry and skilled handiwork. It has been practiced by numerous artists across Iran. Parviz Abdi, a master of this art form, has dedicated over 45 years to wood carving and marquetry.
Notably, a workshop on wood carving and marquetry, led by Abdi in collaboration with the Iranian Consulate General, was also held yesterday at the Pakistan Arts Council. The workshop attracted enthusiastic young Pakistani art students eager to learn this intricate craft.
